This weekend sees PPI launch the summer 2009’s last major day-and-date tent-pole, Stephen Sommer’s GI JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA. The action film launches day-and-date with the US in 36 international markets, including Japan (where the film saw its world premiere last week – July 27) as well as UK/Ireland, France, Spain, Russia, Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Poland, Switzerland (F & G), Turkey, Ukraine, UAE, Lebanon, Others Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Venezuela.
GI JOE is based on the popular Hasbro brand of action figures, which has seen a spin-off animated TV show and movie and comic-books. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (TRANSFORMERS franchise) produces. The film stars Channing Tatum, Rachel Nichols, Marlon Wayans, Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Quaid, Christopher Eccleston, Byung-hun Lee, Said Taghmaoui, Arnold Vosloo and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
